Moon Rise NJ Pine Barrens

Full Moon On the Bog by Richard Lewis 2013

This is another photograph made during the full moon rise in the NJ Pine Barrens. (See my previous post) The difference between this image and the one in my last post is a little slight of hand.

Observing the landscape while waiting for the moon to rise I saw two images I wanted to make. One would be the close up of the moon rising over the pines shown in the previous post. The second became the photograph above which is a wider view of the Pinelands marsh. I had two lenses with me that were suited for the task but only one camera. This meant that I would have to switch lenses after I was finished taking the first photograph.

The moon rises very quickly and was over the horizon by the time I switched lenses. The resulting second photograph wasn’t bad, but I had intended to show the moon rise. So, while editing the image, I turned back time and moved the moon back to where I wanted it to be.

Is this photograph real or is it faked? What you see here really happened. It just didn’t happen when the camera was ready to record it. I tried to make it as original as possible by changing the size and coloring of the moon to match what it looked like when first rose over the trees.

To me this image is art and not something photographed “for the record”.  Art always gives its creator license to play with reality and make it their own. What do you think?

Enjoy
